A red alert has been issued for blue green algae on a section of the Darling River.
The warning is for Burtundy, north of Wentworth, with Water New South Wales saying it’s only for untreated water in the area.
The water authority is urging locals to avoid recreational activities in the area including swimming and water skiing, and should not drink the water.
A red alert is also in place for the Great Darling Anabranch at the Silver City Highway, and amber alerts are in place for Pooncarie, Ellerslie and Tapio on the Darling, and Mount Dispersion, Fort Courage and Lock 8 on the Murray.
