Deputy Liberal Leader Sussan Ley has described the new Murray Darling Basin deal a death sentence in Federal Parliament.
The government’s planned overhaul of the plan passed the Senate yesterday with support from the Greens and Crossbenchers.
One of the amendments agreed to include considering the impacts on communities when water’s returned to the environment.
But the Member for Farrer says Labor has ignored the communities who explained why water buybacks will hurt them.
Labor agreed to several amendments to receive support from the Greens and Crossbench to get the bill over the line, including having 450-gigalitres of water returned to the environment delayed to the end of 2027.
