Telstra and Optus are refusing to delay the shutdown of their 3G networks despite warnings public safety is at risk.
Telstra will switch off its 3G service at the end of the month while Optus’ will go in September, with fears the move could stop critical medical equipment, such as cardiac monitors, and fire alarms.
Federal member for Mallee Anne Webster has previously raised concerns the shutdown will affect the most vulnerable not only in her electorate but across the country.
Experts have warned tens-of-thousands of people may also be left without access to the triple-zero emergency number when the shutdown begins within weeks.
