A new silo artwork has popped up in the South Australia’s Riverland while another will be started in Walpeup.
Artist Jarrod Loxton finished the Galga installation which commemorates Aussies who served in WWII, just in time for Anzac Day.
And a mural paying tribute to a fallen ANZAC will be on the silo at Walpeup on the Mallee Highway, it’s due to be finished over coming weeks.
Internationally renowned artist Julian Clavijo will recreate an image of teenager Harold Thomas Bell on the GrainCorp Walpeup Silo.
Harold was a farming boy in Walpeup who became a trooper in the 4th Australian Light Horse Regiment after using his cousin’s last name, Wickham, to disguise his true age.
The teenager was shot in the leg during the Battle of Beersheba on October 31 1917 and died of his wounds the following day.
He was 16 years and seven months old.
Mildura Regional Development chief executive Brett Millington said the mural would allow its viewers to pause and reflect.
The Walpeup mural project has been four years in the making and will come to life from May 3.
