 SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WARNING

The Bureau of Meteorology has issued a Severe Thunderstorm Warning for Mallee, South West and Wimmera Forecast Districts. 

  • Severe thunderstorms are likely to produce damaging, locally DESTRUCTIVE WINDS and large hailstones over the next several hours in the Mallee, South West and Wimmera districts. Locations which may be affected include Mildura, Horsham, Stawell, Nhill, Hamilton, Warrnambool and Portland.
  • Severe thunderstorms are likely to produce damaging, locally DESTRUCTIVE WINDS and large, possibly GIANT HAILSTONES over the next several hours in parts of the Mallee district. Locations which may be affected include Mildura, Ouyen, and Robinvale.
  • This Emergency Warning replaces the Watch & Act issued at 4:30 PM today.

If you are located in the Mallee, South West and Wimmera districts. Locations which may be affected include Mildura, Horsham, Stawell, Nhill, Hamilton, Warrnambool, Portland, Ouyen and Robinvale you are in danger. You should immediately move indoors to stay safe.

What you should do:

  • Be aware of potential hazards caused by the severe thunderstorms, including DESTRUCTIVE WINDS and large, possibly GIANT HAILSTONES. 
  • Stay indoors and away from windows. 
  • Be aware of any hazards near you. 
  • Follow your emergency plan, if you have one. 

If you are outside: 

  • You should try to locate a safe place to shelter indoors. 
  • If you cannot shelter indoors, stay well away from trees, drains, low lying areas and floodwater.

If you are driving: 

  • You should try to locate a safe place to shelter indoors. 
  • Be aware of very dangerous and unpredictable road conditions. 
  • For road closure information, check the VicTraffic website, contact your local council or call VicRoads (13 11 70). 

Contact family members and neighbours to ensure they are aware of the situation, if safe to do so. 

Call Triple Zero (000) in a life threatening emergency.

  • Significant building damage
  • Fallen trees and branches
  • Extremely dangerous flash flooding
  • Landslides
  • Widespread flooding in properties and homes
  • Very dangerous road conditions
  • Heavy rainfall may lead to an increased risk of landslides – be aware of fallen earth, rocks, debris or trees.
