New research has found regional and rural communities continue to back the nation’s egg industry, despite the ongoing challenges posed by avian influenza.
The annual community survey of more than 5,000 people reveals 8 in 10 Australians (83%) are happy to support the industry, with two-thirds (66%) trusting it to act responsibly.
It also shows a significant shift in how the community values eggs with nutrition now ranking above price, convenience and taste.
The report says overwhelmingly, Aussies value the nutrition content of the Aussie Egg.
The resounding majority of respondents noted eggs provide important nutrition in the Australian diet (86 per cent).
The price of eggs fairly reflects the cost of producing them, as noted by 56 per cent of respondents.
But in a sign of the times, just under half thought they were affordable where they live, 47 per cent.
