Regional Victoria has a higher rate of unintentional overdose deaths than Melbourne.
The latest figures from the Penington Institute show there were twenty-two deaths in Mildura in the five years between 2018 and 2022.
The Swan Hill region recorded 12 deaths over the same time.

The report says indigenous Australians had a higher rate of unintentional drug-induced deaths.
Other regional Victorian areas:
Bendigo – 44 deaths in the years between 2018 and 2022.
Ballarat – 45 deaths in the years between 2018 and 2022.
