Victoria Police have again put a call out to the community to protect themselves from the rising trend of theft from motor vehicles, and in particular number plate theft.
Theft from motor vehicles is one of the fastest-growing crimes in Victoria.
Reported incidents have increased by almost 40% in the past 12 months, and around 40% of those thefts involved number plates.
Despite the worrying numbers, most thefts are opportunistic and easily prevented.
Police are urging the community to avoid leaving valuables in your car. If you must, keep them out of sight.
Also, if you have a garage or off-street parking – use it!
Police are also asking the community to secure your tools, don’t leave them accessible in the tray of the ute, and install anti-theft numberplate screws.
