Three teenagers have been charged after an alleged pursuit near Broken Hill at the weekend.
About 1.25am on Saturday (16 May 2026), police were patrolling the Broken Hill area, when they observed a ute believed to be stolen travelling on the Barrier Highway.
Police attempted to stop the vehicle, however the driver allegedly failed to stop as directed and a pursuit was initiated before road spikes were deployed.
The vehicle was located abandoned off the Highway and three boys, aged between 14 and 16 were arrested nearby.
They were taken to Broken Hill Police Station where one of the 16-year-olds and the 14-year-old were charged with steal motor vehicle.
The other 16-year-old boy was charged with steal motor vehicle, police pursuit – not stop – drive at speed, and never licensed person drive vehicle on road.
All three were refused bail to appear at a children’s court on Sunday 17 May 2026 where they were granted conditional bail to reappear on Friday 29 May 2026.
Further enquiries resulted in a 2nd stolen vehicle being recovered shortly after.
