Swan Hill Rural City Council is preparing to introduce a new Food Organics and Garden Organics (FOGO) kerbside collection service, which they say is a simple way to help keep more waste out of landfill and turn everyday food and garden waste into valuable compost.
Council says they know changes to waste services can take a little getting used to, so they are asking the community for feedback, and they want to make sure the community has the information and support needed for a smooth transition.
So, what can go in your FOGO bin?

Bricks
Council says FOGO services have proven results and can make a real difference by helping:
Reduce the amount of waste sent to landfill
Lower emissions
Create more valuable compost
Reduce landfill operational costs
Keep useful organic materials in circulation
Make recycling more convenient and easier at home

Wentworth Shire Council is also set to transition to a new 3-bin kerbside collection service commencing 5 October 2026.
A community drop-in information session is planned for Dareton this Friday 7 August 2026, 10:00 am – 12:00 pm at Walker’s IGA Dareton (31-37 Tapio Street).
