Residents across Sunraysia and the Mallee are being urged to give hope and register as organ and tissue donors this DonateLife Week (27 July – 3 August).

Right now, around 1,800 Australians are waiting for a life-saving organ transplant.

Currently, only 36 per cent of Australians have joined the Australian Organ Donor Register.

But, the latest figures reveal only 23% of residents across the Mildura local government area are currently signed up to the Australian Organ Donor Register.

It’s not because people don’t support organ donation, with 4 in 5 Australians saying they do.

The challenge is turning that support into action with two simple steps.

Donation is made possible when your family knows and supports your wishes to donate, and registration is the best way to communicate your wishes.

Around 8 in 10 of families agree to donation when you are registered.

But only 4 in 10 families agree when your wishes are unknown.

Registration is simple and only takes a minute at donatelife.gov.au or through your Medicare account.

DonateLife Week is Australia’s major public awareness week to encourage more Australians to register and support organ and tissue donation in Australia.
