A traffic offender was arrested yesterday morning after crashing his car yesterday.
At 10.20m on Monday 18 December, Blanchetown police were conducting speed detection duties on the Sturt Highway at Blanchetown when they detected a Ford sedan travelling at 157km/h in an 80km/h zone. Police did not attempt to stop the vehicle at this time.
Later about 10.45pm, Barmera police detected the same vehicle on the Sturt Highway, Cobdogla, travelling at 181km/h in a signed110 km/h zone. Again, due to the speed and manner of driving, an attempt to stop the car was not made.
Then about 10.55pm, police located the Ford crashed and abandoned just off of the Sturt Highway at Monash. Police searched the area but were unable to locate the driver.
About 6:00am yesterday (Tuesday 19 December) members of the public reported seeing a man near the Sturt Highway. Police attended and identified the man as the alleged driver and placed him under arrest.
The 36-year-old Burton man has been charged with two counts of exceed speed, two counts of driving an unregistered vehicle on a road, drive disqualified, driving a vehicle with incorrect number plate, failing to report a motor vehicle crash and driving at a speed dangerous.
