Swan Hill Rural City Council have joined 33 councils across Victoria to support what they say is a smarter, more affordable approach to glass recycling.
Instead of adding a fourth kerbside bin, they’re calling on the State Government to expand Victoria’s Container Deposit Scheme.
Council says the reason is because a new glass bin could cost millions to roll out, costing households more each year, while adding trucks, congestion and emissions.
They say they’re backing a proven system that works and keeps costs down for our community.
Communities are being encouraged to have their say and provide feedback on preferred recycling solutions through a short survey at https://letstalk.swanhill.vic.gov.au/lets-be-clear-glass
Survey open until 5:00pm on Monday, 25 May 2026.
