In a powerful display of community spirit and commitment to mental health awareness and suicide prevention, the Sunraysia Football Netball League has partnered with Lifeline Loddon Mallee to launch the “How’s Ya Mate” round.

This significant event aims to promote mental health awareness and suicide prevention among young people in our region.

Round 17 tomorrow will see football and netball teams across the league don black arm bands and have a minutes’ silence to pay respect to all lives lost by suicide.

There have also been activities designed to foster conversations around mental health, including presentations at some clubs leading up to next Saturday.

This initiative underscores the importance of checking in with friends, family, and teammates, emphasising that a simple “Checking in on Ya Mate?” can make a significant difference in someone’s life.

SFNL President, Jason Torpey, expressed the league’s dedication to supporting the mental wellbeing of its players and the wider community.

“Mental health is just as important as physical health, and through this partnership with Lifeline Loddon Mallee, we aim to break the stigma and encourage open conversations about mental well-being.”
