Mildura Rural City Council is asking the community to check if their bin lid is the right colour.
If not, council is asking residents to let them know and they will come and replace it as part of the 2025 Rubbish and Recycling Bin Lid Change Over Program.
They’ll be replacing the wrong-coloured kerbside bins over the coming months.
Mildura Council currently implements a four kerbside bin system.
Council has offered kerbside bin collection services since the 1990s.
These bins originally had a dark green body with dark green lids.
Over the years, as the configuration of the kerbside service changed, changes have also occurred to the bin-lids.
By 1 July 2027, all bins supplied for kerbside collection services must have the following bin lid colours under State Government service standards:
- General rubbish: red
- Mixed recycling: yellow
- Glass recycling: purple
- Food and Organics: lime green
Council is calling for residents to let them know if their bin lids are the wrong colour by the end of August 2025.
Lids will begin to be replaced next month.
The Rubbish and Recycling Bin Lid Change Over Program is being undertaken with funding from Recycling Victoria.
