Murray Mallee Police have detected the following traffic offences on the final weekend before Christmas.
On Friday 19 December, Barmera Police reported a 51-year-old Glossop man with driving while disqualified after he was stopped on Vasey Street, Barmera. His vehicle was impounded for 28 days and he will be summonsed to appear in court.
On Saturday 20 December, Renmark Police stopped a vehicle on Eighteenth Street, Renmark. The driver, a 27-year-old woman, recorded a blood alcohol reading of 0.224 – more than four times the legal limit. She was issued with a 12-month immediate loss of licence and her car was impounded for 28 days. She will be summonsed to appear in court.
On Saturday, Berri Police stopped a vehicle on Ral Ral Avenue. The driver, a 53-year-old man from Northern Territory, recorded a blood alcohol reading of 0.237. He was arrested and charged with drink driving. He was issued with a 12-month instant loss of licence and his car was impounded for 28 days. He was refused police bail and appeared in the Berri Magistrates Court on Monday 22 December.
On Saturday, Waikerie Police stopped a vehicle on Sturt Highway, Waikerie. The driver, a 53-year-old man from Mullaquana, recorded a blood alcohol reading of 0.074. He was reported for drink driving and will be summonsed to appear in court at a later date.
Six drivers were detected drug driving over the weekend including four in the Riverland:
- A 49-year-old Taldra woman was stopped on Bookpurnong Terrace, Loxton
- A 31-year-old Murray Bridge man was stopped on Bookpurnong Terrace, Loxton
- A 41-year-old Loxton man was stopped on Bookpurnong Terrace, Loxton
- A 51-year-old Loxton woman was stopped on Bookpurnong Terrace, Loxton
All drivers will receive a three-month loss of licence and may face court pending forensic analysis.
