Unions say entire towns are dying thanks to ongoing bank closures in regional and rural areas.

A Senate Inquiry into bank closures in regional Australia is expected to give the industry another black eye when it reports back to Federal Parliament tomorrow.

The ANZ bank branch closed in Robinvale last year, with locals fighting to keep other branches open in the town.

Finance Sector Union boss Wendy Streets says the loss of local branches forces customers to travel to larger nearby towns, with often disastrous consequences.

The union’s National President says they’re hoping the senate investigation recommends legislative changes.
