Recognition of the signs of stroke is down

Data is showing the Mallee is going backwards when it comes to recognising the sings of stroke.

A new survey has found just two-thirds of locals in Victoria’s north-west can recognise at least one sign of having a stroke, which is down six per cent on last year.

And a third of Mallee residents can’t recall any of the signs.

What are the signs of stroke in men and women?

  • Sudden numbness or weakness in the face, arm, or leg, especially on one side of the body.
  • Sudden confusion, trouble speaking, or difficulty understanding speech.
  • Sudden trouble seeing in one or both eyes.
  • Sudden trouble walking, dizziness, loss of balance, or lack of coordination.
  • Sudden severe headache with no known cause.
