Cancer patients across Sunraysia and surrounds will now have access to radiotherapy start-time data through the nation’s largest dedicated cancer care provider.
In a national first, Australia’s largest dedicated cancer care provider is now publishing current data, updated monthly, to help patients and their families better understand their options when it comes to accessing timely radiotherapy treatment.
Icon Cancer Centre, which operates here in Mildura, is now openly publishing the number of days from a patient’s referral to their first consultation with a radiation oncologist.
Across Icon’s Australian radiotherapy sites, the current median time from referral to first consultation is five days, while the average number of days to start treatment is also five, however the average start-time for local patients currently sits at 3 days, which is ahead of that national median start-time.
The CEO of Icon Cancer Centre, Paul Fenton, says the move will provide greater information and assurance to cancer patients, especially those in regional locations.
Icon says timely access to radiotherapy is crucial for providing cancer patients with better health outcomes.
The data is published on the Icon Cancer Centre Australia website: www.iconcancercentre.com.au
