Pruning performance field walk

October 12, 2026 8:25 am in by

Dried grape producers are invited to a field walk and barbecue this month, with a focus on mechanical pruning performance and spring vineyard best practices.

The event will be held at DFA Innovation Committee chair Ashley Johnstone’s Irymple vineyard, where growers will have the chance to see how his vines have responded to mechanical pruning over multiple seasons.

The session will discuss ways to measure pruning performance and labour costs, and the importance of recording this data to help make on-farm decisions and savings.

The field walk will also present a timely opportunity to look at spring vineyard best practices, including cordon bunch spraying.

The field walk and barbecue will be held from 4.30pm on Wednesday, 21 October, on the corner of Sixteenth Street and Karadoc Avenue, Irymple (Sixteenth Street entrance – look for the DFA flag).

Barbecue dinner to follow.
