January 3, 2025 7:10 am in by

A “WORLD class” $90 million sporting and recreational hub to service the Buronga/Gol Gol area is being considered by Wentworth Shire Council.

The plan would see a major expansion of the current Carramar Drive Sporting Complex combined with an upgrade of the current facilities.

The proposed new complex, on the eastern side of Carramar Drive, would include two additional sporting ovals, eight floodlit tennis courts, two lawn bowling greens, two netball courts and an indoor leisure centre comprising four multipurpose courts, changerooms, fitness gym and function centre.

The development would also include separate integrated pavilions for tennis/bowls and football/netball, 300 car parking spaces and allow for a future outdoor swimming centre and library and learning centre.

Enhanced facilities at the current Carramar Drive site would include an upgrade of the existing changerooms, the reinstatement of a basketball court, a new skate park and repurposing the existing netball courts into eight pickleball courts.

The estimated cost of the proposal is $89,070,000, excluding land purchase.

The proposal will soon be open for public comment and feedback.
