Properties raided during Varroa Mite investigation

An investigation into how the deadly Varroa Mite got into Australia has taken a twist, with Federal Police raiding properties in NSW, Queensland and Tasmania.

Australian Federal Police has raided half a dozen properties over the three states as agriculture officials try to work out how Australia ended up with the parasite, which is devastating bee colonies around the world.

The parasite was detected in hives at Euston and Balranald last year, with beekeepers needing permits to bring bees into Sunraysia during the almond pollination season.
