Police hit the roads this ANZAC Day weekend

Victoria Police is urging motorists to take extra care on the roads this weekend following a shocking spike in collisions throughout April.

A three-day statewide road policing blitz came into effect this morning to coincide with Anzac Day in Victoria.

Despite it not being a traditional long weekend, Anzac Day is traditionally associated with travel to attend events and there is an increased risk of impaired driving on the public holiday.

Operation Tribute will see police highly visible and enforcing across the state’s roads in an effort to curb road trauma.

Operation Tribute commenced at 12:01am this morning, Friday 24 April and concludes at 11:59pm on Sunday.

NSW Police has also launched a statewide traffic operation for the Anzac Day long weekend in New South Wales.

A double demerits period targeting speeding, mobile phone use, seatbelt and helmet offences will be in place.

Operation Anzac Day 2026 commenced this morning 12.01am and will run until 11.59pm Monday 27 April 2026.
