Mildura Highway Patrol are disappointed by road users over the weekend.
Operation Roadwise is underway on the Victorian side of the border.
Over 40 infringement notices were issued to offending drivers with speed being the number one detected offence. There are now 5 drivers who won’t be on our roads these holidays having had their licence suspended for excessive speed.
Unroadworthy vehicles are also an issue, eleven defect notices were issued with 2 vehicles in such poor condition that they received an infringement notice for not complying with standards for registration.
This list is just from the weekend:
Friday at 10.10pm a 31yo female from Mildura was intercepted on Ontario Avenue, Mildura driving an unregistered motor vehicle. She tested positive for an illicit substance. Her licence will be suspended for a period of 6 months and a total of $1539 will need to be paid in fines
Saturday at 3.40am a 19yo male from Red Cliffs was intercepted on 15th Street, Mildura after being detected travelling at 107km in the 80 zone. He was not displaying “P” plates and vehicle was defected.
An 18yo male and a 22yo male both from Mildura were observed at Stonehouse Court, Koorlong in the early hours of Sunday morning improperly using their vehicles. Their vehicles were impounded for 30 days at a cost of $1705 each and they have an uncomfortable date with the Magistrate.
Last Saturday night, a 33yo Merbein male was intercepted riding an unregistered motorbike, and tested positive to an illicit substance. He was intercepted again Tuesday and again Friday for the same offending. The male was remanded in custody.
On Sunday Mildura Highway Patrol detected a vehicle with expired registration.
Police spoke to the driver regarding his licence status, the vehicles registration and why his 12-month-old baby was unrestrained in a stroller in the rear of the vehicle being held by another male who was also attempting to restrain three slabs of beer.
The vehicle was immediately impounded at a cost of $1605 with the driver having to explain his actions to the Mildura Magistrates Court in early 2024.
