Phone use detected in 1 in every 8 trips

Drivers across Sunraysia and the Mallee are being urged to keep their eyes on the road over the Easter long weekend.

It comes as latest data reveals that across Australia drivers are using their mobile phone through 1 in 8 every car trips, and Victorian drivers are using their mobile phone through 1 in every 7 car trips.

The analysis of more than 72 million kilometres of driving data also reveals Good Friday is the third-worst day of the year for driver behaviour.

Safe n’ Save driving behaviour insights by state:

• In South Australia: phone use detected in 1 in every 9 trips

• In Queensland: phone use detected in 1 in every 9 trips (previously higher)

• In New South Wales: phone use detected in 1 in every 8 trips

• In the ACT: phone use detected in 1 in every 10 trips • In Western Australia: phone use detected in 1 in every 9 trips

• In Victoria: phone use detected in 1 in every 7 trips (highest among major states)

The analysis was done by ROLLiN’, an IAG motor insurance brand, using customer driving data from its Safe n’ Save program.
