Pay rise for low-paid workers across Australia

July 1, 2026 7:15 am in by

Hundreds of thousands of retail, warehousing and fast-food workers across Australia will receive a welcome pay increase from today, following the Fair Work Commission’s decision to increase minimum award wages by 4.75 per cent.

The SDA – the union representing retail, fast food and warehouse workers – says the pay increase will provide important cost-of-living relief for workers who have faced ongoing pressure from rising housing, grocery, energy and transport costs.

SDA National Secretary Gerard Dwyer said retail, warehousing and fast-food workers had kept Australia running through challenging economic conditions and deserved fair wage increases.

“Retail, warehousing and fast-food workers are the backbone of communities right across Australia, and many have been doing it tough as the cost of living continues to rise,” Mr Dwyer said.

“Today’s increase will provide real and welcome relief for workers and their families who have been working hard while facing growing financial pressure.

The increase takes effect from today, July 1st, for workers covered by modern awards.
