Mystery fish caught in Ouyen Lake

The Ouyen Lake Working Group has released information of a recent catch from the local lake via their Facebook Page.

A sizeable Redfin has been caught in the lake, and the group says that they are unsure how it has come to be there as it is not part of their stocking program.

At this stage there are a couple of possibilities:

That someone has intentionally released Redfin into the lake, which is an illegal act, or that it has come through the unfiltered water while filling the lake (although they assume that there would have been signs of Redfin in lake earlier than now).

They have asked that if you catch a Redfin in the Ouyen Lake, please do not return it to the water.

Redfin are an introduced species that are a known predator of native fish.

The group is also asking that if you do catch a Redfin, contact the committee through their Facebook page so we can keep an eye on numbers.
