This month is Motorcycle Awareness Month in NSW.
Transport for NSW says routine checks can help identify mechanical issues and confirm that a motorcycle is ready for the road.
Riders should ensure that their motorcycle is regularly serviced and check its condition before each trip.
Before riding:
- check the tyres, brakes, lights, indicators, mirrors and fluid levels
- confirm that protective gear is in good condition and fits correctly
- plan the route and check weather, road and traffic conditions
- allow time for rest breaks
- consider whether fatigue, medication, illness or other factors may affect riding
- choose a motorcycle with anti-lock braking where possible.
Anti-lock braking systems can prevent the wheels from locking and help riders retain steering control during braking on a range of surfaces.
Preparation is important for every trip, including short or familiar journeys.
