The Mildura team from Goulburn-Murray Water have been awarded the 2023 JS Collings Trophy for excellence in maintaining river locks and weirs.
It was a hectic time for the team to remove and reinstate the weir multiple times across 2022 and 2023 for flood waters and to complete maintenance.
The 24 steel trestles, weighing approximately 11 tonnes each, were winched from the river each time, which is no small feat.

Uniquely, the Mildura Weir is the only trestle weir left in Australia, requiring specialist skills.
All major water assets of the Murray River system were inspected for consideration of the prestigious award, and judges were impressed to see the works done at all assets after the largest flood on the Murray in over 50 years.
