Mildura men involved in Shepparton seizures

Shepparton Crime Investigation Unit detectives have seized three firearms and two stolen cars following a firearms prohibition order (FPO) search of a home in Shepparton yesterday.

Detectives attended the Corio Street unit on Monday 8 January about 11.10am.

A search of the residence uncovered a sawn-off shotgun, two rifles and an allegedly stolen Holden Club Sport and Suzuki Swift.

A quantity of alleged drugs, more than $17,000 in cash and items believed to be proceeds of crime were also seized.

The Bomb Response Unit (BRU) was also called in after a quantity of suspected fireworks and device was found. The area was cordoned off and the area deemed safe after the items were taken away by the BRU.

Four men and a woman found in the property were arrested and have all been interviewed, including:

A 32-year-old Mildura man has been charged with:

• theft of motor vehicle

• possess prescription medication (x2)

• proceeds of crime (x3)

• commit indictable offence whilst on bail.

He will appear before Shepparton Magistrates’ Court today.

A 29-year-old Mildura man has been charged with theft of motor vehicle and possess proceeds of crime. He has been bailed to appear before Shepparton Magistrates’ Court late April.

Detective Senior Sergeant Paul Shortis, Shepparton Crime Investigation Unit says “The use and possession of illicit firearms won’t be tolerated with police committed to bringing those responsible before the courts.”
