More than four-point-one million containers have been returned locally through the Victorian Container Deposit Scheme since it started in November.
Member for Mildura, Jade Benham MP, has called for more automated collection machines in the region, saying it’s a no brainer to have them at sporting precincts where money goes back into the community.
The Mildura electorate only has five collection points, but the local MP says “The people have spoken with their containers. We are all more than willing to participate in this program, imagine the possibilities if it were to be expanded.”
Ms Benham raised the possibilities in Parliament about how this program has the ability to ease pressure on Government coffers, by making rural economies truly circular.
She has congratulated the operators and staff of Charlton Newsagency, Donald Newsagency, Exchange Depot Mildura, Around Again Mildura and J&J’s Trash and Treasure Robinvale for their dedicated commitment in having their collection points operational.
