Works will start today to remove small sections of levees as part of Mildura’s flood recovery effort.

Mildura Rural City Council says they are looking to actively inspect previously flood-impacted roads ahead of reopening them as soon as possible.

The levees blocking the following roads are the first to be inspected:

  • Cureton Avenue near the Mildura Homestead
  • Eleventh Street extension, near Regina Avenue.

Looking longer term, Council intends to examine the future options for levees and levee maintenance in our region, including discussions with relevant agencies.

Locals are being reminded the roads may not be safe to drive on due to the amount of water that hit the region.

Meanwhile, as flood waters continue to recede, many popular walking tracks along the riverfront are also becoming accessible again.

Council is warning that although it may look safe above-ground, underneath, the soil can remain wet for a long period of time which can cause a serious risk of trees falling.

Also, the Victorian Building Authority is urging residents to make sure they’re not duped by dodgy builders.

The authority says scammers may try to take advantage of the crisis and offer services when they’re not qualified.

It’s urging locals to make sure any builder or plumber are registered and licensed.
