Man to face court over wildlife cruelty

A man accused of killing four magpies and wounding another two is due to face a Mildura Magistrates Court in January.

The 56-year-old is facing 21 charges over the alleged incidents at a property near Mildura.

Animal cruelty offences can carry fines of more than 90-thousand dollars or two years jail.

Wildlife Officers said “Harming and killing wildlife is not only cruel, but also illegal.”

“We urge Victorians to report any information about wildlife crime to Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.”

It’s illegal to kill or harm the birds, which are a protected native species in Victoria.
