Man charged over alleged serious assault of elderly man – Broken Hill

A man has been charged in Dubbo over an alleged serious assault and robbery in the state’s Far West on the weekend.

About 2:00pm on Sunday (13 September) emergency services were called to a home on Argent Street, Broken Hill, following reports a man had been assaulted and robbed.

Police arrived and found a man in his 80s with serious assault injuries.

NSW Ambulance paramedics treated the man before he was taken to Broken Hill Hospital in a stable condition for further treatment of head injuries and fractured ribs.

Police were told a man, known to the older man, had allegedly demanded money and threatened him with a knife before assaulted him and stealing an amount of cash.

A crime scene was established at the scene, and detectives commenced an investigation into the incident.

Following extensive inquiries, officers attached to Orana Mid-Western Police District arrested a 38-year-old man at a motel on Victoria Street, Dubbo, about 9:00pm Monday (14 September).

During a search of the motel room, police seized several items of clothing and a mobile phone.

The man was taken to Dubbo Police Station where he was charged with three offences,

· Robbery armed with offensive weapon cause wounding/grievous bodily harm

· Take/detain person with intent to obtain advantage cause actual bodily harm, and

· Cause grievous bodily harm to person with intent.
