A man has faced court after allegedly driving under the influence of illicit drugs and alcohol in Broken Hill last week.
Highway Patrol saw the driver of a Holden sedan display an obscene hand gesture on the Silver City Highway near Gaffney Street in Broken Hill, about 2.20pm Tuesday 2 June 2026.
Shortly after, police stopped the vehicle on Crystal Street, with the driver, a 45-year- old man, allegedly exiting the vehicle and advancing towards police.
Following the man’s attempts to evade police on foot, and after the man allegedly pushed a police officer in the chest, officers arrested the man.
During the arrest, police deployed OC spray.
The man was taken to Broken Hill Police Station where he was subject to a breath test and oral fluid test, to which he allegedly returned a positive result to both methamphetamines and alcohol.
The man allegedly returned a breath analysis reading of 0.087.
He was charged with,
• Not obey direction of police/authorised person
• Assault police officer in execution of duty without actual bodily harm
• Hinder or resist police officer in the execution of duty
• Drive with middle range PCA
• Drive with mid-range PCA and illicit drug.
The man was refused bail and appeared before Bail Division Court 4 on Wednesday 3 June 2026, where he was granted strict conditional bail to reappear before Broken Hill Local Court on Tuesday 16 June 2026.
The man was also issued with a licence suspension notice.
