Magpie swooping season

You may have noticed Magpies and other protective birds are out defending their nests this time of year.

If you’re walking, cycling, or out and about, keep an eye out and stay safe:

Travel in groups where possible – magpies are less likely to swoop.

Dismount your bike and walk through known hot spots.

Avoid waving your arms – it can make them more aggressive.

Pop on a hat or sunglasses for extra protection.

These swoops don’t last long, usually just a few weeks while chicks are in the nest, but staying alert will help keep everyone safe (including the birds).
