Mildura MP Jade Benham has welcomed the back flip on a Victorian health tax on doctors.
The government has announced it will exempt contractor GPs and employee GPs who bulk bill from payroll tax.
The local MP says that means visits to the GP for locals in her electorate will remain affordable, with the health tax putting up another barrier for those living in regional and rural areas.
New South Wales and Queensland granted similar payroll tax exemptions last year, with South Australia expected to follow suit.
Victorian doctors had threatened legal action against the tax and warned they may have to close their practices.
