Member for Mallee, Anne Webster, says she won’t let the Federal Government go ahead with a policy designed to reduce vehicle pollution.

The Federal Member is accusing Energy Minister Chris Bowen of rushing the Fuel Efficiency Standard Policy, due for implementation next year.

She says it would see petrol and diesel cars subsidies the rollout of Electric Vehicles, which she says is reckless.

“We all support lowering emissions, but Labor fails to acknowledge the practical reality in electorates such as Mallee,” Dr Webster said.

“In the midst of a cost-of-living crisis families cannot be forced to pay more for vehicles that won’t cut the mustard for their day-to-day needs.”

The local member says the push for electric vehicles is going to cost Mallee taxpayers, saying many EVs are unsuitable for many of our region’s roads, with inadequate charging infrastructure and concerns over battery life adding to the problem.
