Local councils on the south of the Murray will receive up to 85-thousand dollars each to prepare for the upcoming fire season.
Through the State Government’s Roadside Weeds and Pest Program, 45 councils across Victoria will receive the funds to treat and prevent invasive plant and animal species.
These can threaten native biodiversity, contribute to the spread of fires and have a serious negative impact on agricultural production.
$2.86 million has been allocated for the 2024-2025 program state-wide.
The list of regionally prohibited, regionally controlled and restricted weeds and pests eligible for treatment under the RWPP is available from https://agriculture.vic.gov.au/biosecurity/protecting-victoria/legislation-policy-and-permits/consolidated-lists-of-declared-noxious-weeds-and-pest-animals
