A local man who was last week jailed for four months has been released pending an appeal.

The 37-year-old left an off-duty police officer unconscious after an assault at the Merbein Hotel in August last year.

The Sunraysia Daily reports he’s been released from custody after he indicated he would appeal the sentence in the County Court.

Meanwhile, a Red Cliffs teenager accused of raping a minor has had his case adjourned for a fourth time.

The 18-year-old is facing five child sex charges as a result of the alleged incident, where he’s accused of also grooming the child in September last year.

The Herald Sun reports the accused had his bail extended and will return to court after the Easter long weekend.
