A Mildura woman who has helped over 2000 Ugandan women find financial independence has been selected as a state finalist in the search for Australia’s kindest person.
National women’s apparel retailer Black Pepper’s World Kindness Day Search aims to find the country’s kindest people, share their stories and hopefully inspire others to live a little kinder each day.
Susan Howe started Poshu Project while living in Uganda in 2009.
The education program teaches Ugandan women affected by violence and poverty how to sew, speak English and other key skills to be able to financially support themselves and their families.
Back in Australia, Susan continues to fundraise and use her own funds to support Poshu Project helping over 2000 women in 20 villages earn an income.
Susan is one of three Victorian state finalists who were selected from hundreds of entries nationwide.
Susan is now in the running to become the Victorian state winner with Black Pepper customers invited to vote in stores during September.
State winners will receive a $500 Black Pepper voucher and other prizes.
The national winner will be announced and crowned as Australia’s kindest person at a special event in Melbourne ahead of World Kindness Day on November 13 and will win $5,000 for the charity of their choice.
