Authorities are worried about the rise in the number of people who’ve died in rivers and other inland waterways.
There were 19 deaths recorded during the last financial year.
That’s a 14 per cent increase on the 10 year average.
There were also 12 non-fatal drownings at Victorian inland waterways – a 13 per cent increase on the 10 year average.
Mildura is forecast for a few hot days, and Justine Kristik from Ambulance Victoria says people need to be extremely careful as we head into the last long weekend before school goes back.
Around two-thirds of drownings at inland waterways involve alcohol or drug use.
