Police have arrested a 35-year-old man who narrowly avoided side-swiping a police car at high speeds in Irymple early this morning.

Patrolling uniform members noticed a Holden sedan parked in the car park of a closed supermarket on Fifteenth Street about 3.40am.

Police attempted to intercept the vehicle who then fled, reaching alleged speeds of up to 190km/h, causing officers to lose sight of him.

Police looked up the vehicle’s registration details and began making their way to the owner’s Mildura address, when they again came across the vehicle again, which lost control while trying to drive off and nearly crashed into the side of the police car at allegedly 150km/h.

Given the driver’s dangerous behaviour, police elected to continue to the address of the registered owner where they found it parked outside.

A check of CCTV footage confirmed he was the driver and he was taken into custody.

He will now be interviewed in relation to dangerous driving offences.
