Heart Week, May 4 – 10

May 5, 2026 7:08 am in by

During Heart Week, Mildura Rural City Council is encouraging the local community to start conversations about heart health with loved ones and take steps to understand heart health risk.

Community members are also invited to take part in a La Trobe University–led research project exploring new and easier ways for people in rural and remote communities to check their heart health.

This local collaborative research project is working to explore how heart health checks might be made more accessible.

This includes looking at different options for accessing heart health checks, such as at home, through a local pharmacy, or at a local health centre.

The project is taking place in Mildura, Merbein, Ouyen, Wentworth, Dareton, Buronga and Gol Gol.

Heart disease remains one of the leading causes of death in our region, with local rates higher than the national average.
