The future of key health services at Mildura Base Public Hospital are under question, with reports the Emergency Department could close, and Paediatric Care could be wound down.
The Herald Sun says budget cuts could leave thousands of locals travelling up to four-hundred kms for emergency care.
Member for Mildura Jade Benham says she’s been told the Department of Health has asked the Mildura Hospital Board to find at least 10 per cent saving.
The local MP also says the risk to patients would be extreme, and the proposal would cost lives.
Mildura Base Public Hospital and Victoria’s Health Minister have both said the claims are false.
