October 23, 2023 9:15 am in by

A Victorian Parliamentary Inquiry will look into the freedom of information laws in the state.

It’ll be the first time the legislation’s been reviewed in more than forty-years.

Mildura MP Jade Benham is a committee member of The Victorian Parliament’s Integrity and Oversight Committee, and is asking locals to have their say on the FOI laws.

The Committee will examine a range of issues, including: the effectiveness of the FOI Act’s current policy model in comparison with other options; mechanisms for proactive and informal release of information; efficient and timely mechanisms for persons to access their own personal and health information; the time and costs involved in providing access to information; and a variety of other matters available in the terms of reference published on the Committee’s website.

Submissions will close on January 15 next year, with more information on the Integrity and Oversight committee website: https://new.parliament.vic.gov.au/get-involved/committees/integrity-and-oversight-committee?tab=panel-current-inquiries
