A new $36 million program has been launched to help empower regional and rural communities to prepare for drought by building and maintaining their social resilience.
The Future Drought Fund’s Communities Program will be delivered over three years by the Foundation for Rural & Regional Renewal and the Australian Rural Leadership Foundation.
Since 2020, FRRR has partnered with the Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry (DAFF) and the Australian Rural Leadership Foundation (ARLF) to identify and act on drought preparedness priorities at a grassroots level.
The program includes three key grant elements that will each be available to specific Local Government Areas, along with national mentoring and additional capacity building activities.
Nina O’Brien from FRRR says the program aims to strengthen communities ahead of the inevitable challenges caused by drought.
