The author of a review into cultural issues at the Hawthorn Footy Club has been arrested by fraud squad detectives.
Allegations surfaced in December relating to the Murray Valley Aboriginal Co-Operative in Robinvale, which was managed by former Richmond and Melbourne player Phil Egan.
At the time Mr Egan denied the claims, and suggested they may have been part of an attempt to undermine the bombshell Hawthorn report.
“I categorically deny that I have stolen from the Murray Valley Aboriginal Cooperative (MVAC) in any way whatsoever,” he said in a statement.
“At all times I have acted with honesty, integrity and in the best interests of the MVAC.”
Police have confirmed Mr Egan was interviewed on Tuesday in relation to the allegations and is expected to be charged on summons.
The police investigation into the matter is continuing.
