Locals around Sunraysia are being encouraged to ensure they’re prepared this fire season.
The Fire Danger Period came into force for the local government area in the early hours of this morning, with the CFA saying the lack of rainfall in the north-west has left areas of grass and vegetation highly flammable.
Residents now need a written permit to hold a burn off, and are being warned lighting fires in the open without a permit can lead to heavy fines or jail.
Swan Hill’s fire danger period will start next Monday.
Meanwhile, Red Cliffs Fire Brigade has celebrated 100-years of service.
The local fire station opened its doors to the public on Saturday.
It has around 50 members, but volunteers are welcome to find out more about becoming a CFA member.
