Farming group slams Productivity Commission’s findings

A Victorian farming group has slammed the Productivity Commission’s backing of more water buybacks in the Murray Darling Basin.

The commission’s review of the Murray Darling Basin Plan found it hasn’t made enough progress on water recovery.

But the Victorian Farmers Federation says that would irreversibly damage Basin farming communities.

The group says Labor’s proposed legislation tears up the collaborative management of the basin to buy back water for the 450-gigalitres, no matter what.
